Recognize that the behavior feels good
In this clip from an episode of clearer thinking the guest says:
One thing that really helps in behavior change is to recognize that the behavior feels good.
I can relate to this and had this realization about working. I realized that I enjoy the feeling of being focused on work. This enjoyment is available regardless of whether the task I'm working on is the most important, or whether the job I have now is the right job for me, or any other thing that can get in the way if you try to motivate yourself by the task leading to an outcome you value. Just knowing that I enjoy the feeling of focusing on a task for its own sake. Realizing that I will enjoy feeling focused is often an easier motivation to access than trying to reconnect with why doing work now leads to things I value.
